To recap: In my last post I told you about the fast that we as a church are participating in. You can read all about it HERE. We are officially doing the 21 day Daniel fast. What is a Daniel fast you ask?… basically it’s no meat, bread, sweets, or wine. The full food list can be found HERE.
So with that said…. how are we holding up after 3 days of not eating our ‘normal’ food and drink? Fairly well I think… I’ll explain. First of all I will say that I truly love food. When I was younger I was what they would call a VERY picky eater. I’m talking cheese pizza, grilled cheese, macaronni & cheese (Do you see a pattern here?). All of that was a huge part of my diet as a child. It wasn’t until I started high school that my culinary palete really began to expand. Fast-forward to me at 27 years old and I find myself loving to eat things that I thought I’d never enjoy. I love the different tastes, smells, and satisfaction that comes with eating the food I enjoy. Now I don’t go out of my way to consciously worship these things…BUT I do.. even through these first short 3 days, the biggest takeaway that God is teaching me is that I’ve been Idolizing food. How could that happen? How could something that our body requires so much be turned into a bad thing… not that certain food is ‘bad’ and that makes us ‘bad’ in return… It’s a heart issue. What is taking priority in your life? What is taking up your time, effort, and consciousness? Even if it’s as harmless as your favorite (Cheese)burger. -C
